All workshops can be customized to fit your audience and time frame, please see below for workshop offerings. Color Play: Exercises in Color Selection
This workshop is a fun and interactive way to get creativity flowing and find new inspiration when approaching color selection for quilt projects. An overview of color theory and examples of successful use of color from a variety design disciplines will create the foundation for students to dive into their own exploration of color play. This course is part lecture and part workshop, as students are encouraged to go beyond their color comfort zones and into new color territory by using prompts and inspiration imagery. Students are invited, but not required, to bring projects to class to select a color scheme. Jen’s background in interior design and architecture informs the discussion of color across the design spectrum. No sewing experience necessary.

 DeColourant Workshop with Jen Fox

DeColourant Workshop: Removing Dye from Quilting Cottons to Create Textile Designs
This workshop is pure play and experimentation with a product called DeColourant. DeColourant is used in several projects in the book “Transfer Embellish Stitch: 16 Projects for the Modern Maker”, written by Jen and coauthor Sarah Case. We’ll learn how to make simple freezer paper stencils, and then use the stencils with deColourant to create inspiring textiles to incorporate into a variety of sewing projects. I will also give ideas of how to incorporate this fun product into projects -- from quilts to totes, garments, home decor items, and more. No sewing experience necessary.

Machine Applique 101 Workshop with Jen Fox

Raw Edge Machine Applique 101
This course is an introduction to a super simple, quick, and approachable raw edge applique method. Participants will be able to select from a variety of applique motifs that I provide, or I will also teach tips about how to design your own applique motif. This class is suitable for all levels - beginners can get an introduction to basic applique with simple shapes, and more advanced quilters can explore how to design their own motif for applique. I will also have a selection of projects made using this method to inspire and discuss. No sewing experience necessary.

DIY Painted Canvas Storage Basket Workshop by Jen Fox

DIY Painted Canvas Storage Basket Workshop
Canvas storage baskets are a great gift giving idea, or for using around the home to corral loose odds and ends. The project is found in the book “Transfer Embellish Stitch: 16 Projects for the Modern Maker”, written by Jen and coauthor Sarah Case. In this workshop, students will learn how to make freezer paper stencils, use fabric paint, and sew a fully lined canvas basket. They will leave with a complete project. Some sewing experience necessary.

 DeColorant and Hand Embroidery Workshop with Jen Fox

DeColourant & Hand Embroidery Embellishment Workshop
This workshop is a more involved deColourant workshop, and we will learn how to layer the techniques of deColourant and simple hand embroidery to create our own unique textiles. DeColourant and hand embroidery are used in several projects in the book “Transfer Embellish Stitch: 16 Projects for the Modern Maker”, written by Jen and coauthor Sarah Case. Students will be encouraged to use their imaginations to create their own motifs and stencils, and embellish their fabric with hand embroidery. The fabric can then be incorporated into a variety of projects including quilts, bags, garments, gifts, and more. No sewing experience necessary.

Mini Art Quilt Workshop with Jen Fox
Mini Art Quilt: Improv Piecing and Embroidery Embellishments
We will talk about mini art quilts and how to plan a design and execute an idea with success. Students are encouraged to let go of the rules and improvise with simple piecing techniques to create a mini wall hanging. We’ll also discuss simple embroidery stitches to enhance the quilt and add texture. Students will leave class with a completed mini art quilt to display as a wall hanging. Basic sewing machine operation skills necessary.
Suggested workshop length: Two - 6 hr sessions (2 days)
